Eromanga image

Famous for being Australia's furthest town from the ocean, Eromanga is located 108 kilometres west of Quilpie on the fully sealed Natural Sciences Loop and a quick detour off the Warrego Way. Sustained by surrounding pastoral properties, some of which are over 8,000 square kilometres, Eromanga is also home to the Eromanga Oil and Gas Basin, which produces around one and a half million barrels of oil each year. A visit to the Eromanga Natural History Museum to learn about the dinosaur fossils found near the town is a must! The museum is discovering new Australian dinosaurs in an area of Australia where they have previously never been found. Australia's South West Queensland's Channel Country is home to Australia’s largest dinosaur fossil discoveries, the 95 million year old Eromanga dinosaurs. These exciting new dinosaurs are some of the world’s largest dinosaurs! The Old Royal Hotel, built in 1885, is one of the town's original buildings and was once a Cobb & Co. staging post. Visit the Living History Centre for a dose of history and information on early settlers, industry and opal mining. Next door is a park with playground and barbecue facilities and a stunning mining memorial, which is inlaid with real opal. Visitors are welcome to a community barbecue held Saturday nights and annual events, including the Easter Eromanga Rodeo, Campdraft and Gymkhana, are a great place to meet and yarn with locals from around the region.
